Limestone-marl strata

Limestone-marl strata

Each limestone-marl “sequence” corresponds to about 20,000 years. The 50 meters of cliff that we have looked at together are equivalent to 5 million years!
I am delighted to have accompanied you in this journey through time. I hope to see you again soon! Each limestone-marl “sequence” corresponds to about 20,000 years. As you have seen, this stack of strata went from horizontal to vertical because of the folding caused by the collision of tectonic plates (creation of relief). So, by observing the 50 metres of cliff that are visible here, you are going back in geological time by 5 million years!
I am delighted to have accompanied you during this journey through time. If you take a close look, you will find numerous other places in the region that have similar features to this site.
Enjoy your discoveries!
